DOMESTIC ANIMAL MANAGEMENT PLANS

Each state has legislation that articulates requirements about the management and control of domestic animals, associated business operations and the role of local government

This is generally contained in various Local Government Acts and more specifically in legislation that relates to the management of domestic animals, such as the Domestic Animals Act (Vic), the Dog and Cat Management Act (SA), the Companion Animals Act (NSW), and the Animal Management (Cats and Dogs) Act (Qld).

State governments specify matters that must be addressed in animal management plans. In addition to legislated compliance matters that must be addressed, local councils also have the option to consider wider community health and wellbeing matters relating to pets.
